Hot Water Rebate Policy

- Helps Victorian households to adopt energy-efficient and sustainable solutions.
- Saves on energy bills; households save about $250 annually.
- It encourages green practices by reducing environmental impacts.
- It applies only to authorized retailers and eligible products, ensuring quality and compliance.
Explore The Eligibility Criteria
- You should be the property owner and occupying it at the time of the installation.
- The taxable income of the owners of the property should not exceed $210,000 annually.
- The value of the property should not exceed $3 million.
- The address should not have received any past hot water or solar battery rebates under similar programs.

- Moreover, the installation has to be done by an authorized retailer, and only those products that are STAR ENERGY verified, should be used.
Hot Water Installations: Your Guide To Installing Revolution
- Get your research done.
- Consult with an authorized retailer.
- Choose a system from the list of eligible products that meet your energy needs.
- Request a written quote, which your retailer will upload to the designated portal.
- Wait for an email confirmation that your quote has been uploaded.
- Obtain pre-approval for the rebate.
- Provide proof of eligibility by uploading the required documents to the portal.
- Await confirmation of your eligibility and receive a QR code.
- Proceed with installing the hot water system within 120 days.
- Pay the retailer the remaining cost after deducting the rebate amount.
Note: Rebates will not be provided for installations completed before eligibility approval, except in emergencies.
Emergency Installations
For any unsafe or faulty hot water system, you can have it replaced immediately without going through the process of ensuring eligibility. You must, however, prove your eligibility for the rebate as soon as you can after installation. If you are ineligible, the rebate will be rejected.
Steps for emergency replacement:
- You will contact an accredited retailer to get solar hot water or a heat pump system installed.
- Inform the retailer of your intention to apply for the rebate and ensure that only eligible products are used.
- Ensure that you meet all your eligibility criteria before proceeding.
- Complete the installation of the replacement system.
- Have your identification and proof of income prepared for your rebate application.
- Submit your rebate application online.
When providing your quote details, be sure to select the emergency installation option.

QR codes
Once your eligibility is accepted, the installer will receive a unique QR code via e-mail. The QR code acts as your eligibility number and provides added security features. Your installer needs to scan the code onsite before beginning any work to ensure that the installation is being performed by an authorized hot water professional.
Installation timelines
Be sure the installation is completed within 120 days of receiving your QR code.
Rebate Payment Process
The rebate is directly paid to the retailer and deducted from your final invoice. You’ll only need to pay the remaining balance after installation.
The rebate is calculated as 50% of the purchase price (up to $1,000) after applying other discounts, including Small-scale Technology Certificates and Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates.
